ISS HUNT
Let's begin this voyage!
The ISS is a space station in low Earth orbit. Launched in 1998. Designed between 1984 and 1993. The first permanent crew took up residence there in 2000 and since then it's the site of the longest continuous human presence in space. On this website, you'll learn some interesting things about the ISS, as it soon will be retired. Let's never forget this amazing spacecraft that changed science forever!
Below you can watch 2 interesting videos: 1 that will show you how ISS looks like inside and 2 with basic,
but most quintessential experiment - wringing out water in space - performed by Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield.
On the right, you'll also find a button that will direct you to official ISS site, where you can learn more. Enjoy!
STEP 1
Search for "ISS tracker" on your browser (or click the one
here). At firts,
you'll see the current location of the ISS.
STEP 2
Go to "pass predictions", after you enter your city you'll be able to see:
1. How many times it's gonna fly above your city in the near future
2. When the flyover starts and when it ends
3. Cloudiness
And many other things! Here's an example of how it can look like ->
The flyover from the example was really short, not even 3 mins, and unfortunately the cloudiness was predicted to 100%, so you probably wouldn't even see anything.
STEP 3
Now, when you know when the ISS is flying over, just go out at this particular time and look at the night sky! You should notice bright, small point moving fast through the sky - that's the ISS. Last but not least, enjoy the flyover!
Peggy Whitson
An American biochemistry researcher that spent 695 days in space!! Her first mission was "expedition 5",
in 2002, and then on her second mission "expedition 6" in 2007-2008 she became the first woman to command
the ISS, she did it again in 2017 and therefore became the first woman to command the ISS twice. Truly inspiring!
Scott Kelly
An American astronaut who commanded the ISS on Expeditions 26, 45 and 46. He spent whole year on the ISS -
learn more about this year
here. Do you recognise the famous gorilla on the ISS? It was him!! He got this gorilla costume
from his twin on his birthday. Hover the photo of him to find out
